2026 Nissan Tekton: A New Chapter in Nissan’s Indian Journey

The Indian automotive market has been abuzz with the news of Nissan’s upcoming mid-size SUV, the Tekton. Expected to hit the Indian roads in the second quarter of 2026, the Tekton is poised to play a crucial role in Nissan’s revival journey in the country. As the company prepares for the launch, we have compiled ten key things to know about the Nissan Tekton.

Design and Features

The Nissan Tekton’s design language is heavily inspired by the brand’s flagship SUV, the Patrol. The front fascia boasts an upright stance, C-shaped LED DRLs, a connecting light bar, flat nose, sleek LED headlamps, and a wide trapezoidal grille with twin Chrome bars. The boxy silhouette and connected tail lamps at the rear further reinforce its rugged and bold design. The Tekton’s design team has also incorporated multiple easter eggs in various areas of the vehicle, showcasing the brand’s attention to detail.

Platform and Engine Options

The Tekton will be built on the CMF-B platform, co-developed by Renault and Nissan. This flexible and modular platform is designed to support electrification and will also underpin the new-generation Renault Duster. In terms of engine options, the Tekton is expected to share its powertrains with the Duster, including a 1.3-litre EDC turbo-charged petrol and a 1.2L mild hybrid. Strong hybrid engines may also be introduced later. The vehicle will be available with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Petrol-Only Offering

A departure from the previous Terrano, the Tekton will be a petrol-only offering, doing away with diesel engines. This move is in line with the brand’s strategy to focus on petrol and hybrid powertrains. The Terrano’s 1.5L diesel engine, which was available in two states of tune, will not be part of the Tekton’s lineup.

Manufacturing and Production

The Nissan Tekton will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan plant in Oragadam, a suburb of Chennai. The facility, which has been operational since 2010, offers strategic location benefits, ample logistics, and infrastructure. The plant has an installed annual capacity of 480,000 units, divided equally between the two brands. With the Tekton’s launch, Nissan aims to increase its production numbers and focus on exports.

7-Seater Sibling

Nissan is reportedly working on a longer, seven-seater version of the Tekton, which will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar. The three-row form of the Dacia Duster, known as the Bigster, will be called the Boreal in global markets. Nissan may base its three-row SUV on the same platform.

Interior Design and Features

While the interior design and feature list of the Tekton have not been revealed yet, the carmaker has shown off some premium interior trims with good detailing. The vehicle is expected to share many features with the Duster, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument gauge cluster, automatic climate control, and a six-speaker audio system. The safety suite will include up to six airbags, ESP, hill start assist, and level 2 ADAS.

One Car, One World Strategy

The Tekton will be the second product under Nissan’s ‘One Car, One World’ strategy, following the Magnite. The vehicle will be manufactured at the Chennai plant, shared with Renault, and will have a strong focus on exports. With the Tekton’s launch, Nissan aims to operate its production lines at 80-90 percent capacity by 2027.

In conclusion, the 2026 Nissan Tekton promises to be an exciting addition to the Indian automotive market. With its bold design, advanced features, and focus on petrol and hybrid powertrains, the Tekton is poised to make a strong impact in the mid-size SUV segment. As the launch approaches, enthusiasts and customers alike are eagerly waiting to get their hands on this promising vehicle.
