98th Academy Awards Nominations: Ryan Coogler’s Sinners Makes History with Record-Breaking 16 Nods

The road to the 98th Oscars has officially begun. This morning, Oscar-nominated actor Danielle Brooks and actor Lewis Pullman took to the stage at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater to announce the nominations for the 98th Academy Awards.

It was a morning of shattered records and historic “firsts.” Most notably, Ryan Coogler’s visceral vampire epic, Sinners, led the pack with a staggering 16 nominations—the most for any single film in the history of the Academy Awards, surpassing the previous 14-nomination record held by Titanic, All About Eve, and La La Land.

The ceremony, which will see Conan O’Brien return to host for the second consecutive year, is set for Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

The Record-Breaker: Ryan Coogler’s Sinners

Sinners has officially transitioned from a fan-favorite genre hit to a legitimate Academy powerhouse. Earning nods in nearly every major category—including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan—the film’s 16 nominations reflect a seismic shift in the Academy’s appreciation for elevated horror and mythical allegory.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another Follows Closely

Trailing Sinners is Paul Thomas Anderson’s revolutionary saga, One Battle After Another, which secured 13 nominations. The film’s ensemble cast was particularly recognized, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and Sean Penn all receiving acting nods.
